THE FOUR IN HAND KNOT

The Four in Hand Knot is probably used most often by today's man. It does not have the classic sophistication of the Windsor knot. Slightly asymmetrical, the Four in Hand Knot is appropriate with a standard button-down dress shirt and is best suited for men with shorter necks as the narrow knot elongates the neck.

First button your shirt to the top. Flip the collar up.
    How to tie a four in hand knot: step step 1  
    1. Start with the wide end about a foot (or 3 buttons) below the narrow end. Remember the alignment in case you need to re-tie the knot.

    2. Take the wide end and loop it back underneath narrow end.

    3. Wrap the wide end around the thin end and slip the wide end through the knot.

    4. Hold the front of the knot loosely with your index finger and bring wide end down through front loop.

    5. Pull the narrow and wide end alternatively to tighten and adjust the knot.

    6. When the knot is tight slide the knot up to the neck. Do a final adjusting (if necessary).

    Don't forget the dimple. Place your index finger under the knot and gently squeeze in the sides of the tie as you tighten the knot.
